Morning walk through Peshok's tea rows
Walk the paths of Peshok tea estate in the cool of the morning, when pluckers are working the rows. Steep slopes, valley views and a close look at how Darjeeling tea is picked, two leaves and a bud.

Peshok tea estate spreads over the slopes around the village, falling steeply towards the Teesta valley. Like all registered gardens in these hills, its tea can carry the Darjeeling name, a protected Geographical Indication since 2004. The garden paths, used by workers every day, let you walk between the rows with long views down the valley. Peshok is lower and warmer than the gardens around Darjeeling town, and its slopes face the Teesta valley, which gives the walk its long views.
Come early. From roughly March to November pluckers start in the morning, moving along the rows with baskets on their backs and taking the top two leaves and a bud. First flush is picked in spring, second flush in early summer, and monsoon and autumn flushes later. In winter the bushes are pruned and rest. Pluckers' days are long, so keep your questions short and do not hold them up.
Ask at the roadside or a homestay before entering the estate, stay on the paths, and ask before photographing workers. Factory visits are not a regular tourist service, as far as we know, so do not count on one. Carry water and wear shoes with grip; garden paths are steep and slippery when wet. In the rains, leeches appear in the rows, so tuck trousers into socks from June to September.

Questions people ask
Good to know
Can I walk inside Peshok tea garden?
Visitors commonly walk the paths of tea gardens along this road, but the estate is private working land. Ask at the roadside, a shop or your homestay before going in, stay on the paths between rows and do not pick leaves. Avoid the factory area unless you are invited.
Is there a factory tour at Peshok?
We do not know of a regular public factory tour at Peshok, so treat it as a garden walk. For a guided look at withering, rolling and drying, Happy Valley Tea Estate near Darjeeling town is the more reliable choice. Ask locally, as policies at individual estates can change.
When is the best time to see tea plucking at Peshok?
From March to November, in the morning. March and April bring first flush, May and June the second flush, and July to October the monsoon and autumn flushes. From December to February the bushes are pruned and resting, so the slopes are quiet but still good for walks.
