Walk the 7 km road up to Mirik
Get off the Siliguri jeep at Sourenee and walk the last 7 km to Mirik on the road through tea and villages. An easy climb of about 165 m, with the lake waiting at the end.
Most travellers ride straight into Mirik. Walking the last 7 km gives you time with the gardens: the plucking sections, small village shops, children walking to school and the curve of the hills opening as you climb.
The road climbs gently from about 1,330 m to Mirik's 1,495 m. Send your bags on with the jeep to your Mirik hotel if they will take them, or travel light.
Walk on the side facing traffic and take care on bends. Stop for tea in the village. Start in the morning to arrive in Mirik for lunch.
Cost: Free · ₹30–50 jeep for bags
