A morning walk through Kabi's farm villages
Around Kabi, footpaths link small farms of maize, vegetables, cardamom and oranges on terraces above the North Sikkim road. Walk an easy loop for two hours after visiting the stones, see how families farm the slope, and catch a jeep onward or back.

Kabi is a farming village of about 1,600 people spread across the slopes around the historic site. Families grow maize, vegetables, ginger and cardamom, keep cows and goats, and in lower fields grow mandarin oranges. The paths between houses and fields are the village's own roads, and a slow walk shows you mid-hill Sikkim at its everyday best.
There is no marked trail. From the Kabi Lungchok site, follow paths up or down the slope for an hour, ask villagers the way back to the road, and keep to the edges of fields. Mornings are clearest; from October to April you may glimpse snow peaks to the north and west on clear days.
Be courteous: greet people, ask before photographing homes or people, and do not pick fruit. Dogs may bark but are usually tied. Wear shoes with grip; paths are steep and slippery after rain. When you are done, wave down a shared jeep on the main road toward Phodong or Gangtok.
