Cherry blossom season at Temi in November
In autumn the Himalayan cherry trees along Temi's roads flower pink against green tea and clear November skies. Time a visit for the bloom, walk the estate roads in the morning and, if it is on, look in on the cherry blossom festival Sikkim has held here in recent years.

Japanese cherries bloom in spring, but the Himalayan cherry, Prunus cerasoides, flowers in autumn. Around Temi, cherry trees stand along the estate roads and at the edges of the tea, and for a few weeks, usually in late October and November, they turn pink. Against the dark green rows and the clear blue skies of a Himalayan autumn, it is one of the prettiest seasons in South Sikkim, and bees and sunbirds work the flowers in the morning sun.
Sikkim has promoted this season in recent years with a cherry blossom festival at Temi, with music, food stalls and local crafts over a few days. Dates and programmes change each year and the festival may not run every year, so check current status before you travel. On festival days the road gets busy with cars; on ordinary bloom days, the estate is quiet enough to walk for an hour with hardly anyone else around.
The bloom depends on weather, so ask your Ravangla or Namchi hotel, or a homestay near Temi, how the trees look before you go. Morning light is softer and views of the snow peaks are clearer, so try to arrive by 8 or 9 am. A half-day car from Ravangla costs about ₹1,500–2,500. Do not break branches or climb trees for photographs, and keep to the road where workers are plucking.
Cost: Free; festival events may charge
Questions people ask
Good to know
When do the cherry trees bloom at Temi?
Usually from late October through November. Temi's cherry trees are Himalayan cherries, Prunus cerasoides, which flower in autumn rather than spring. The exact peak shifts by a week or two each year with weather. Ask a hotel or homestay nearby how the bloom looks before you set out, and plan a flexible day if you can.
Is there a cherry blossom festival at Temi?
Sikkim has held a cherry blossom festival at Temi Tea Garden in recent years, usually in November, with music, food stalls and local crafts. Dates, programmes and whether it runs at all change each year, so check with Sikkim Tourism or local news before you travel, and book rooms in Ravangla early if it coincides with holidays.
Is Temi worth visiting outside the cherry season?
Yes. March to May brings the first flush and fresh green rows, October gives clear views, and the monsoon makes the estate deep green, though wet. Only December to February is quieter, when plucking stops. The cherry season is a bonus, not the only reason to come; the morning tea walk works in most months.
