Hike up from Dudhia to Tingling
Start by the Balason at Dudhia and climb through forest, villages and tea to Tingling, gaining roughly 900 m. A real uphill walk that turns a road trip into a hike, with a jeep on to Mirik at the end.

Dudhia, where the Mirik road crosses the Balason river at about 300 m, is a riverside stop with a bridge and a stony bed where Siliguri families come for picnics. From here the road climbs hard towards Mirik, and older paths cut the bends through forest, villages and tea estates.
Climbing on foot, you feel the change in height: warm, humid air at the river, then cooler air and tea above. It is a steady uphill of roughly 900 m to Tingling, which takes most fit walkers 2.5–3.5 hours.
Paths branch through the estates, so go with a local guide or ask often. Start early, carry plenty of water, and flag down a Mirik jeep at the top.
