Morning at Tingling viewpoint
Stop at the wide bend on the Mirik road and look out over a bowl of tea gardens, east to the Balason valley and west to Nepal. A quick, free stop that most travellers rate among the best views of the trip.
The Tingling viewpoint is not a built structure; it is a wide bend in the road with open views on both sides. Walk to the edge and look down: the rows of tea follow the contours of the hills so neatly that whole slopes look combed.
To the east the Balason valley runs down towards the plains; to the west, beyond the Mechi river, are the hills of Nepal. On the clearest days in winter, snow peaks show to the north.
Stalls sell tea and snacks. Keep to the road edge, watch for traffic on the bend, and do not climb down into the gardens.

Where exactly is Tingling viewpoint?
On the Siliguri–Mirik road via Dudhia, just below Sourenee and about 8–10 km before Mirik. It is a wide bend where the tea gardens open out on both sides. Jeep and car drivers all know it; ask them to stop.
Is there an entry fee at Tingling viewpoint?
No. It is a roadside viewpoint with no fee. You pay only for tea or snacks at the stalls. If you are in a shared jeep, you may need to wait for another one to continue, as drivers do not usually wait long.
When is the best time to visit Tingling?
Morning, between about 8 and 10 am, from October to May. Clear winter days give the longest views. Afternoons often bring mist into the valleys, and the monsoon months bring cloud and rain.
