Hire your guide and pay park entry
Every Sandakphu trip starts with paperwork at Maneybhanjan: register with the guide association, get a licensed guide from the roster and buy Singalila National Park entry tickets. Done early, it takes half an hour and sets up the whole trek.

The guide association office sits near the start of the trail. Guides are assigned by turn, which spreads work fairly across local families, so you cannot normally pick a person by name unless you have booked through a known operator. Tell the office your route, number of days and whether you will walk or ride; the fee is per group per day and includes the guide's return walk on many routes.
Park entry is paid at the forest counter. Bring photo ID for everyone: passport or voter ID for Indians, passport and Indian visa for foreigners. These are checked again at the park and SSB posts on the ridge, and the trail steps through Nepal more than once. Keep the receipts; you may be asked for them at Tumling or Sandakphu.
Use the time to agree details: where you will sleep each night, whether the guide eats with you (normally you pay for his lodge meals or he arranges his own), and the day you want to come out at Rimbik or back at Maneybhanjan. A clear plan at the office makes the rest of the trek simple.
Cost: Guide ₹1,500–2,000 a day per group · entry ≈ ₹100–200
Questions people ask
Good to know
Can I trek to Sandakphu without a guide?
No. Singalila National Park requires a licensed local guide for every group, and forest staff check at the posts along the ridge. The rule creates income for local families and improves safety in fog and snow. Solo trekkers can share a guide by joining up with others at the office in the morning.
What does a Sandakphu guide cost?
Indicatively ₹1,500–2,000 per group per day, set by the guide association and revised from time to time. You usually also cover the guide's lodge meals or pay a small food allowance. A porter, if you want one, costs extra at about ₹1,000–1,300 a day. Check current status before you travel.
What ID do I need for the Singalila trek?
Indians should carry a passport or voter ID; Aadhaar may not be accepted on the Nepal stretches. Foreigners need a passport with a valid Indian visa. Carry photocopies and the originals, as SSB and forest staff check at several points between Maneybhanjan and Phalut.
