Lataguri Eco-Tourism Centre (WBFDC)

The forest corporation's own property at Lataguri, the village on the Gorumara forest edge where the safari tickets are sold. A government alternative to the long line of private resorts on the highway, with the park counters a few minutes away.

Lataguri grew from a forest-edge village into the main resort strip for Gorumara, with dozens of private hotels on and off the highway. The West Bengal Forest Development Corporation's eco-tourism centre here gives you a government-run option close to the safari counters, so you can be in the queue early without a drive.

Room categories and tariffs change, so check the corporation's site when you plan. Ask whether meals are included, and ask for a room away from the highway side if you are a light sleeper, because trucks run through Lataguri at night. Check current status before you travel.

Why we suggest it

  • Walkable to the Gorumara safari counter area
  • Government-run, with published tariffs
  • A good base for Lataguri, Medla and Chukchuki slots

We list rates as indicative ranges. We do not take commission from this property for being listed here. Check current status before you travel.

Questions people ask

Good to know

Does staying at the Lataguri Eco-Tourism Centre include a safari?

No. Safari and watchtower slots are booked separately with the forest department, online or at the counter, and a jeep is hired on top. Staying close to the counters helps if you are trying for a same-day slot, which is possible on weekdays and hard on weekends and holidays.

How far is Lataguri from NJP station?

About 75–85 km, two to two and a half hours by car via Sevoke, Odlabari and Malbazar, or via Jalpaiguri and Maynaguri. A reserved car costs about ₹3,000–3,500. Buses towards Malbazar and Maynaguri are far cheaper, about ₹100–150, but slower.

Is Lataguri noisy?

The village sits on a busy highway through the forest, and speed limits apply but trucks run at night. Rooms set back from the road are quieter. If silence matters more than convenience, look at Murti or the corporation's smaller camps such as Dhupjhora and Kalipur instead.
