Hotel Tibet

An old Gangtok hotel decorated in Tibetan style, close to MG Marg on Paljor Stadium Road. Rooms are plain but warm in feel, some face the valley, and the location makes it easy to do the town on foot.

Hotel Tibet has been part of the Gangtok streetscape for decades, and its Tibetan decor, with painted pillars and thangkas, sets it apart from the concrete blocks around it. It is a short walk from MG Marg, which means you can eat out, shop at Lal Bazaar and catch a shared taxi without hiring a car. Rooms vary in size and view; valley-facing rooms cost more.

We place it at the upper end of Value: not a backpacker lodge, not a resort. It suits families and couples who want reliability and a central address. As with any older hotel, look at the room first if you can, ask for a heater in winter and check whether breakfast is included. Rates rise sharply in Puja and Diwali weeks; check current status before you travel.

Why we suggest it

  • Walkable to MG Marg, Lal Bazaar and taxi stands
  • Tibetan-style interiors in an old Gangtok address
  • Valley-facing rooms for a little extra

Questions people ask

Good to know

Where is Hotel Tibet in Gangtok?

It is on Paljor Stadium Road in central Gangtok, a short walk from MG Marg. That puts the mall, Lal Bazaar and the town's shared taxi points within reach on foot, which saves money on short taxi hops. Ask the front desk for the easiest walking route, because Gangtok's roads are steep.

Do rooms at Hotel Tibet have a view?

Some rooms face the valley and cost more; others face the road or the inside of the building. Kanchenjunga views from central Gangtok depend on the weather and the angle of the room, so do not assume a mountain view. If the view matters, ask for a valley-facing room and check what it faces when you book.

Is Hotel Tibet suitable for families?

Yes. Its central location means children walk less and you avoid taxis for meals and shopping, and the hotel has a range of room sizes. Ask about extra beds and heaters when you book, especially from December to February, and book early for Durga Puja, Diwali and summer holidays, when Gangtok fills.
