Mintokling Guest House
A long-running, family-run guesthouse in central Gangtok, built around a garden and finished in Sikkimese style. Quieter than the hotels on MG Marg, a short walk from it, and a favourite with travellers who want a calm base rather than a view tower.

Mintokling has been taking guests for many years and still feels like a family compound rather than a hotel. Rooms sit around a garden with painted wood, Buddhist motifs and simple, warm furnishing. It is the kind of place where the staff will tell you which shared jeep stand to use and how early to leave for Tsomgo. We like it because it keeps you inside walking range of MG Marg without the evening noise of the mall.
Expect clean, plain rooms rather than hotel extras. Ask about room heaters in December and January, when Gangtok nights drop to about 4–5 °C, and about hot water timings. Rates move with the season: Durga Puja, Diwali and the April–May school holidays are the busiest weeks, when booking a few weeks ahead is wise. Check current rates directly before you travel.

Questions people ask
Good to know
How far is Mintokling Guest House from MG Marg?
It is in central Gangtok, within walking distance of MG Marg; most guests walk to the mall for dinner and take a taxi only for the steep climb back with bags. Taxis inside town charge fixed short-hop fares of about ₹100–300. Confirm the exact walking route with the guesthouse when you book, since Gangtok's lanes are steep and stepped.
Can Mintokling arrange Tsomgo and Nathu La permits?
Most Gangtok guesthouses work with registered local tour operators who apply for Tsomgo and Nathu La permits; the guesthouse itself does not issue them. Give your photo ID and two passport photos a day ahead. Nathu La is for Indian nationals only and is closed to tourists on some weekdays. Check current status before you travel.
Is Mintokling warm enough in winter?
Gangtok winters are cool rather than freezing, with nights around 4–5 °C in December and January. Older buildings like this one can feel cold indoors, so ask for a room heater or extra blankets when you book, and pack a warm layer for evenings. Hot water timings vary in small guesthouses, so check them on arrival.
