Yangsum Heritage Farm
A family-run farmstay in an old Sikkimese farmhouse at Rinchenpong, among cardamom, oranges and kitchen gardens. Home-cooked meals, farm walks and Kanchenjunga on a clear morning, a short walk from Rinchenpong Monastery.

Yangsum is a working family farm at Rinchenpong that opened its old farmhouse to guests. It is one of the better-known farmstays in this corner of Sikkim and a good example of what the area does well: food from the farm, rooms with wooden floors and quiet nights. Guests walk through cardamom and orange plots, see how large cardamom is dried and eat what the kitchen garden produces that week.
Rooms are limited and fill up in spring and autumn, so book ahead and confirm what is included. We list no fixed price because the farm sets its own rates by season and room. Rinchenpong Monastery and the Kanchenjunga viewpoints of Rinchenpong and Kaluk are within walking or short driving distance.
Why we suggest it
- An old farmhouse stay rather than a concrete hotel
- Meals cooked from the farm and kitchen garden
- Walkable to Rinchenpong Monastery and village viewpoints
We list rates as indicative ranges. We do not take commission from this property for being listed here. Check current status before you travel.
Questions people ask
Good to know
How do I reach Yangsum Heritage Farm?
Rinchenpong is about 40 km from Pelling and roughly 125 km from Siliguri via Jorethang. Shared jeeps run from Jorethang towards Rinchenpong and Kaluk, mostly in the morning and early afternoon; from the bazaar ask for the farm, or ask your hosts to arrange a pickup. A reserved car from NJP takes about 5 hours.
Are meals included at Yangsum Farm?
Farmstays at Rinchenpong usually include dinner and breakfast, and lunch can often be arranged. Confirm this with the farm when you book, along with the current rate, because both change by season. Expect home-style Sikkimese and Nepali food with vegetables from the farm.
Is Yangsum Farm suitable for older travellers?
It suits seniors who can manage some steps and uneven paths, which are normal on a hill farm. The pace is slow, the food is home-cooked and there is little traffic noise. Ask for a ground-level room if stairs are difficult, and carry warm clothes for evenings between November and February.
