A quieter evening at Chandrachur tower

When Jatraprasad is sold out, Chandrachur is a calmer watchtower on Gorumara's forest edge, with fewer people and a good chance of gaur and elephants in the evening. Ask at the counter which towers are open on the day.

Gorumara's watchtowers rotate in and out of service for repairs, flood damage and forest management, and the less famous ones often give the quietest evenings. Chandrachur is one of these: a tower near the forest edge that sees far fewer visitors than Jatraprasad, which means less noise and a better chance that animals stay in view.

The last slot of the afternoon is the one to take. As the heat drops, gaur leave the shade, elephants may cross towards water and peafowl roost noisily. Rhinos are less certain here than at the main salt lick, so treat it as a complement to Jatraprasad or Medla rather than a replacement.

Routes and tower names on the booking site change; read the list carefully when you book and ask the counter the evening before. After the October 2025 floods some areas needed repairs, so check current status before you travel.

Cost: ₹2,500–3,500 a jeep for up to 6 (indicative)

Questions people ask

Good to know

Which Gorumara watchtower is least crowded?

Smaller towers such as Chandrachur and Chukchuki usually see fewer visitors than Jatraprasad and the Rhino Observation Point. Weekday slots are always quieter than weekends. Which towers are open varies by season and repairs, so check on the booking site and at the counter.

Can we book two different towers on the same day?

Yes, if slots are available; many visitors book a morning and an afternoon shift on different routes. Each is a separate booking with its own fees and jeep. Two slots on different days spread the cost and give the animals, and you, more chances.

What should I bring on a Gorumara safari?

ID card, booking confirmation, binoculars, a warm layer for dawn in winter, water, a small towel for dusty jeeps and a camera with a zoom lens. Leave bright clothes, perfume and noisy snacks behind. Toilets are limited, so plan before you board.
