Downhill walk from Deolo through Graham's Homes
Take a taxi to the top of Deolo and walk 5 km downhill to Kalimpong through the cottage campus of Dr Graham's Homes, founded in 1900. Easy on the lungs, gentle on the budget, and full of Scottish mission history.

The road down from Deolo is the best short walk around Kalimpong. You start at the hilltop park, 1,704 m, and drop about 450 m to the bazaar over roughly 5 km. The first stretch passes pine and the edge of the park; then the road enters the campus of Dr Graham's Homes, where stone cottages, each named after an early donor, stand among lawns and old trees.
The school was founded in 1900 by the Rev. Dr John Anderson Graham as the St Andrew's Colonial Homes, starting with six Anglo-Indian children in one cottage. The idea of small family cottages, instead of a single orphanage block, shaped the whole hillside. Look for the chapel and the farm buildings. It is a working school, so stay on the road, keep voices down near classrooms and do not photograph students.
Below the school the road joins the town's upper lanes and comes down near the bazaar. Allow 1.5–2 hours with stops. Wear shoes with grip, because the steeper stretches are slippery after rain. In the monsoon expect leeches on grassy edges.
