Kanchenjunga dawn from an Icchey Gaon garden
At about 1,770 m, Icchey Gaon looks over the Teesta valley to the full Kanchenjunga range. Step into your homestay garden before sunrise and watch the snow catch the light.

Icchey Gaon is higher than Kalimpong and Ramdhura, and its ridge looks across the Teesta valley and the hills of Sikkim to the Kanchenjunga range. On clear mornings from October to April, the summit, 8,586 m high and well over 80 km away, catches the sun a few minutes before everything else.
Ask your hosts to wake you 30 minutes before sunrise: around 5.30 am in October and March, after 6 am in December and January. Wrap up warmly; winter dawns are close to freezing. Most homestays have a garden or terrace facing the range, so you will not need to walk.
Mid-October to early December gives the best chance of a clear sky. Stay two nights for two chances. If the peaks are hidden, wait 20–30 minutes after sunrise, when cloud often lifts briefly.
