Lolegaon's heritage forest is a patch of old trees spared from felling: huge oaks and cypresses with trunks wrapped in moss, ferns and orchids. The canopy walk, a hanging bridge of wooden planks and steel cables, runs for about 180 m through their crowns, several metres above the forest floor. It moves a little under your feet, which is part of the fun.

Go at opening time, around 8 am, when the mist is still in the trees and the birds are busy. Walk slowly; stop at the platforms to look into the canopy for barbets, sunbirds and woodpeckers. Groups are asked to cross a few at a time, so be patient on busy weekends. Children love it, but keep a hand on small ones.

There is a small entry fee, and the bridge closes in storms and for maintenance. Afterwards, walk the trails at ground level among the same trees, which are just as impressive from below. In the monsoon, the forest is at its greenest and leeches are at their keenest.

Cost: Small entry fee (indicative ₹20–50)
