Sunrise at Jhandi Dara
Drive or walk 4–5 km in the dark to Jhandi Dara, the prayer-flag hilltop above Lolegaon, and watch Kanchenjunga light up at sunrise. The village's best hour, on a clear morning.

Jhandi Dara means 'flag ridge', after the prayer flags (jhandi) that cover it. It is a hilltop about 4–5 km from Lolegaon with an open view north-west to the Kanchenjunga range and the hills of Sikkim. At dawn, the peaks catch the sun while the valleys are still full of cloud.
Book a car with your homestay the night before; it costs about ₹600–1,000 return. You leave about 45 minutes before sunrise, so around 5 am in October and March and closer to 5.30 am in December and January. Some guests walk up with a torch and a local guide, which takes about an hour each way. Wrap up warmly: it is often close to freezing at dawn in winter.
October to early December gives the best odds of a clear sky, with February to April a good second. If the peaks are hidden, wait 20–30 minutes; cloud often parts briefly after sunrise. Come back to the village for breakfast and the canopy walk.
