Questions people ask

Good to know

How long does it take from Siliguri to Mirik?

About 2–2.5 hours for the 52 km by jeep or car, more with stops. The first half is flat to Dudhia; then the road climbs steeply through tea gardens. Weekend and holiday traffic out of Siliguri can add 30–60 minutes.

Is the Siliguri to Mirik road good?

It is generally a good, paved hill road. The section above Dudhia is steep with many bends, and monsoon rain can cause small slides and slowdowns. Travel in daylight and check current status before you travel in July and August.

What is Dudhia?

Dudhia is the riverside stop where the Mirik road crosses the Balason river, about an hour from Siliguri. It has a bridge, a stony river bed and food stalls, and Siliguri families picnic there. The river rises fast after rain, so do not swim in the monsoon.

Can I go from NJP straight to Mirik?

Yes. A reserved car from NJP to Mirik costs about ₹2,200–3,000 and takes about 2–2.5 hours. For less, take an auto or local taxi from NJP to Siliguri and then a shared jeep to Mirik for ₹150–200.
