Maple Tourist Lodge
A GTA tourist lodge on Eric Benjamin Road in the Old Kutchery area of Darjeeling. Simple government rooms, an older building, and a quieter location than the market lanes. Good value for travellers who want a fixed government tariff in town.

Maple Tourist Lodge is one of the smaller government lodges in Darjeeling, on Eric Benjamin Road near the old court (Kutchery) area. It is a plain, older property: high ceilings, simple furniture and the sort of creaking wooden floors common in the town's colonial-era buildings. Rooms are priced to government norms. The Kutchery area grew up around the district courts and offices of British Darjeeling, and much of that era's building stock survives nearby, which makes for an interesting walk up to the ridge in the morning.
It works best for travellers who value a quiet night and a known tariff over a Mall-side address. You will walk uphill to Chowrasta or take a short taxi. Ask about room heaters in winter and whether meals are served on the day you arrive. Like other GTA properties, tariffs and booking channels change, so check current status before you travel. Rates are usually lower in the monsoon and winter months.
Why we suggest it
- Fixed government tariff
- Quieter area near the old court buildings

Questions people ask
Good to know
How do I book Maple Tourist Lodge in Darjeeling?
Usually by phone or through the GTA tourism office in Darjeeling, as Maple Tourist Lodge is run under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. Online booking for GTA lodges has come and gone over the years. Call ahead, confirm the tariff and meals, and check current status before you travel.
Is Maple Tourist Lodge close to the Mall?
It is a walk, not a step. The lodge is on Eric Benjamin Road in the Old Kutchery area, below and to the side of the main ridge. Fit travellers walk up to Chowrasta in about 15 to 20 minutes; others take a short taxi. The trade-off is a quieter street at night.
Is Maple Tourist Lodge suitable in winter?
Yes, with preparation. Like most older hill buildings it is cold from December to February, when Darjeeling nights fall to about 2 °C. Ask for a heater and extra blankets, confirm hot-water timings, and bring warm layers for the evenings. Winter rates are often lower, and the mountain views are at their clearest.
