Holumba Haven
A family-run guesthouse inside a working orchid nursery about 1 km below Kalimpong town. Cottages among the plant beds, home-style meals on order, and owners who know the local walks well.

Kalimpong has grown and sold orchids, gladioli and cacti for generations, and Holumba Haven lets you sleep inside that story. The guesthouse sits in the family's nursery, known as Nurseryman's Haven, about 1 km below the town on the Siliguri side. The land has been in the family for decades; it opened to guests in 2004, and its cottages are scattered across about two acres of gardens where some 250 orchid species grow.
The oldest building, Magnolia Cottage, has a literary footnote: the British Buddhist writer Sangharakshita wrote his memoir Facing Mount Kanchenjunga there. Meals are home-style and cooked on order, so tell the kitchen in advance. It is a calm base for two or three nights, close enough to walk into town for the haat bazaar and far enough to sleep well.

Questions people ask
Good to know
Where exactly is Holumba Haven?
It is about 1 km below Kalimpong town on the road towards Siliguri, inside the family's orchid nursery. From the Motor Stand a taxi costs around ₹150–200, or you can walk in 15–20 minutes downhill. Ask the shared jeep from Siliguri to drop you at the gate on the way up, which saves the ride back down from town.
Can I see the orchids if I am not staying there?
The nursery is a working business, so ask politely at the gate rather than walking in. Orchids flower mainly from March to May, with some species in autumn. If you want a bigger tour of Kalimpong's plant trade, combine it with the cactus collection at Pine View Nursery near the town; check current status before you travel as opening hours vary.
Does Holumba Haven serve meals?
Yes, home-style meals are served in the dining room, but only on pre-order, so tell the kitchen what you would like in the morning for dinner and in the evening for breakfast. Expect dal, rice, seasonal vegetables, eggs and Tibetan or Nepali dishes. For street food, the town's momo shops are a 20-minute walk uphill.
