Morning birds in Ramdhura's pine and oak
Walk the lanes around Ramdhura at first light for the birds of the middle hills: barbets, bulbuls, minivets, sunbirds, tits and woodpeckers, in a mix of pine, oak and farm edges.
Ramdhura's mix of habitats, pine plantation, patches of broadleaf forest, cinchona, gardens and farmland, is good for birds of the middle hills. At first light, mixed flocks move along the forest edges: tits, minivets, warblers and white-eyes, with barbets calling from the taller trees and sunbirds at flowering shrubs.
Walk slowly along the village lanes and the ridge road towards Icchey Gaon. Stop where the forest meets fields, where activity is highest. Listen for woodpeckers drumming and the loud calls of laughingthrushes in the undergrowth. Spring, from March to May, is the best season, when birds are singing and breeding.
A local guide, about ₹500–1,000, knows where the flocks gather. Carry binoculars and wear dull colours. In the monsoon, birding is harder with rain and leeches, but some species are easier to see as they breed.

Where can I see more Himalayan birds near Ramdhura?
For a richer list, go to Lava, Rishyap and the edge of Neora Valley National Park, about 1.5–2 hours away, where higher forest brings laughingthrushes, sibias and, rarely, the satyr tragopan.
