Dawn over the Teesta valley at Ramdhura
From Ramdhura's ridge, watch dawn colour the Kanchenjunga range across the Teesta valley, with mist lying in the river gorge below and the hills of Sikkim between.
Ramdhura's ridge looks north and north-west over the Teesta valley. At dawn, the gorge below often fills with mist, the hills of Sikkim stand out in layers, and on clear days the Kanchenjunga range catches the first light far beyond. It is a view with depth: river, ridges, then snow.
Ask your hosts to wake you 30 minutes before sunrise, around 5.30 am in October and March and after 6 am in winter. Many homestays have a terrace or garden with the view; otherwise walk a few minutes along the ridge. Bring a warm layer, a cup of tea and patience.
October to early December gives the clearest dawns, with February and March next. In April and May haze is more common, and from June to September the valley is usually lost in cloud, though the monsoon mist has its own beauty. Use a zoom lens for the peaks and a wide lens for the valley.

Questions people ask
Good to know
Can you see Kanchenjunga from Ramdhura?
Yes, on clear days, mostly from October to April and best at dawn. The range is visible beyond the Teesta valley and the hills of Sikkim. From June to September cloud usually hides it.
Is Ramdhura or Deolo better for sunrise?
Deolo is higher and a classic sunrise point but has day crowds and needs a taxi. Ramdhura gives a quieter dawn from your homestay, with the Teesta valley in the foreground. If you are staying in the village, Ramdhura wins.
What should I bring for a dawn view in Ramdhura?
A warm jacket, cap and gloves in winter, a torch, and a camera with a zoom lens. A flask of tea helps. Most homestays will make tea early if you ask the night before.
