Deolo Tourist Lodge
West Bengal Tourism's lodge on the top of Deolo hill, 1,704 m, the highest point around Kalimpong. Wake up above the town with Kanchenjunga to the north, gardens and the paragliding take-off at the door.

Deolo Tourist Lodge sits inside the Deolo tourist complex at the top of the hill, about 5–6 km above Kalimpong's Motor Stand. The hill is the town's highest point and its water tank: two reservoirs here store water for Kalimpong. By day the lawns fill with families, pony rides and paragliders taking off over the Relli valley; by evening the day visitors go home and the lodge guests have the hill to themselves.
The reason to stay is the dawn. On clear mornings between October and April, Kanchenjunga lights up to the north, and you can see the Teesta valley and the hills of Sikkim around you. Rooms are plain government-lodge rooms; ask for one facing north. Book on the WBTDC website and check current status before you travel.

Questions people ask
Good to know
Is it worth staying on Deolo hill rather than in Kalimpong town?
For one night, yes, if you want sunrise. The lodge is at 1,704 m, above the town's haze, and on clear mornings Kanchenjunga is in front of you without a drive in the dark. For longer stays, town or Durpin is more convenient for food and shopping. Many people do one night on Deolo and two in town.
Is there an entry fee to Deolo hill?
Day visitors pay a small entry fee to the Deolo park complex, usually under ₹100 per person, with extra for cameras or vehicles at times. Lodge guests normally do not pay again once checked in. Fees change, so check current status before you travel.
Can I paraglide from Deolo?
Yes. Tandem paragliding flights take off from Deolo hill most clear days outside the monsoon, run by private operators. Expect about ₹2,500–4,500 for a 10–25 minute flight, depending on length. Flights stop in rain, strong wind and cloud. Check the operator's licence and safety gear, and check current status before you travel.
