Lolegaon Eco Tourism Centre (WBFDC)
The forest corporation's lodge at Lolegaon, the Lepcha ridge village at 1,675 m. Plain cottages near the heritage forest and canopy walk, government rates, and the Jhandi Dara sunrise point a short drive away.

Lolegaon became a travel name in the 1990s, when the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation set up tents and cottages on the ridge. The eco tourism centre is still the anchor of the village's tourism, with rooms from deluxe to premium. It is a short walk from the heritage forest of old oak and cypress where the canopy walk runs, so you can be on the hanging bridge before the day trippers from Lava arrive.
Food comes from the lodge kitchen on order. The Jhandi Dara sunrise point is about 4–5 km away; arrange a car the night before or walk in the dark with a torch and a local guide. Bookings are on wbfdc.net, usually three months ahead. Check current status before you travel.
Why we suggest it
- Walk to the canopy walk before the crowds
- Government rates in a Lepcha ridge village
- Same booking site as the Lava and Kalimpong forest lodges
We list rates as indicative ranges. We do not take commission from this property for being listed here. Check current status before you travel.
Questions people ask
Good to know
How far is the WBFDC lodge from the Lolegaon canopy walk?
The heritage forest and canopy walk are a short walk from the forest lodge, around 10–15 minutes. Go at opening time in the morning for the quietest crossing. There is a small entry fee for the canopy walk, and it can close for repairs or bad weather, so check current status before you travel.
Can I book the Lolegaon forest lodge with Lava in one trip?
Yes. Both are WBFDC eco tourism centres listed on wbfdc.net, and many people book one or two nights at Lava, then one or two at Lolegaon, 24 km away. The drive between them takes about an hour by reserved car, which costs roughly ₹1,800–2,500.
What is the weather like at Lolegaon?
At 1,675 m, Lolegaon is milder than Lava: around 5–15 °C in winter and 15–25 °C in summer. Mist is common in the afternoon, and the monsoon from June to September is heavy, with leeches in the forest. The clearest Kanchenjunga mornings come from October to March.
