This is our complete tour of the land, done comfortably. It mixes better rooms in the towns with two genuine village stays, so you see both the history of Kurseong and Mirik and the everyday life of the tea and orange villages.

A private car and driver for the whole week takes the strain out of the narrow hill roads between Kurseong, Sittong and Mirik, and lets you stop wherever the view or the light is good. The route climbs gently and never goes above about 2,200 m, so it suits families and older travellers.

Questions people ask

Questions about this trip

Is the price per person?

Yes. ₹38,000 is per person on twin sharing for Indian nationals, from NJP or Bagdogra and back, as an indicative 2025–26 figure. Solo travellers pay more for rooms and cars; groups of four sharing a car pay less. We round to the nearest ₹500.

Can we start from Bagdogra airport instead of NJP?

Yes. Bagdogra is about 30 minutes from Siliguri and a little further from NJP. Shared autos and taxis link the airport to the Siliguri jeep stands. With a reserved car, the fare from Bagdogra is about the same as from NJP.

Can we change the number of nights?

Yes. Add a night where you want more time, usually in the village stops, or drop one on a tight schedule. Keep at least two nights in any place where you want a clear dawn view, since weather can spoil one morning.

Why mix comfortable hotels and village homestays?

Because the villages are the heart of this land, and there are no comfortable hotels in Makaibari or Sittong. The homestays are clean and warm, with home-cooked food. The towns give you better rooms on either side.

Is seven nights too long for this area?

Not if you like a slower pace. Each stop gets enough time for its best morning. If you are short of time, drop Makaibari and one Sittong night to make it five nights.

Can children do this trip?

Yes. Drives are mostly under two hours except Sittong to Mirik, there is plenty of outdoor space, and the toy train, orchards and lake please children. Keep the Ahaldara dawn optional for small ones.

Will we see Kanchenjunga?

The best chance is the Ahaldara sunrise on day 5, most likely between October and March. Eagle's Crag and Rameetay Dara sometimes show snow peaks on clear winter mornings too. Weather decides.

How do you choose the driver?

We suggest a Kurseong or Siliguri driver who knows the village roads to Sittong and Latpanchar, which are narrow. Agree the full itinerary, daily hours and overnight charges in advance, and confirm the driver's stay arrangements.

When is the best season?

November to January for oranges in Sittong and clear mornings; March to May for tea and birds. Avoid the monsoon, when village roads become slippery and the views disappear.
